As part of our partnership with Lune, one such project your Navia carbon offsets will go towards is the Abating of Industrial Emissions in the USA.

Verification: Climate Action Reserve

Type: Emissions Reduction

Storage Period: Short-term

About

The project, located in Pensacola, Florida, permanently reduces nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions from Ascend Performance Materials’ adipic acid production process. N₂O is a potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential (GWP) 265 times that of CO₂. The project consists of the installation and operation of a new absorption column at the adipic acid production plant. The absorber converts NOx to nitric acid via a high-pressure water absorption process, and the nitric acid recovered via the absorber is reused in the production of adipic acid. The absorber’s reduction in NOx allows the plant’s Thermal Reduction Unit (TRU) to accept a higher percentage of the N₂O-rich off gas from the adipic acid production process rather than directing it to the non-N₂O emissions control unit. Directing greater quantities of off gas to the TRU results in more N₂O being destroyed.

Project impact summary

Over 1 million tCO₂e emissions reduction annually: The large-scale industrial process emissions abatement projects significantly drives down the release of N₂O emissions, a GHG 265× more potent than CO₂.

Promoting and scaling new technology: The project proponent has developed a proprietary technology that captures and converts N₂O emissions into reusable nitrogen products.
